Going to the mountains

is going home.

A Little Cabin in the woods was the perfect place for this year's after-Christmas getaway.

The owners are friendly and met us outside upon arrival. We talked for a little while before Jeff showed us to our cabin.

The cabin cabin walls showcase the owner's photography of the beautiful waterfalls and mountain views in the area.   Each photo tells the location of the photo and drive-time to get there.  There is a stack of cards on the table with information about local restaurants and shops, and a rack of brochures with areas of interest.

The cabin sits across the property from the owner’s home. Even in winter, the trees provided more than enough privacy for us to feel like were in the woods as opposed to in someone’s yard.  There is an outdoor seating area with a fire pit and charcoal grill, and a porch that looks out to a very busy bird feeder.

 Sunrise view from the bed.

The cabin has a large selection of DVDs and we watched this documentary about The National Parks.

The cold weather (temps in the 20s, 30s, and 40s during our stay) made the little cabin even feel even cozier.

The cabin is stocked with pots and pans, mugs, a coffeepot, and even coffee!  There are plates and silverware, utensils and everything we needed for the three dinners we made during out stay which were mostly holiday leftovers reheated, and a brats and veggie burgers on the grill.

The location of the cabin is perfect for hiking any of the nearby state parks.  We spent one day hiking at Table Rock State Park and another hiking at Caesars Head State Park.

We ran out of time and didn't have a chance to do everything we wanted to see and do.  This is definitely an area we’d love to visit again.
