This trail is rated as one of CVNP’s most difficult.

At the beginning of the trail, there’s a 435 feet elevation gain over about a half mile. We hiked the Perkins Trail until it met the Riding Run Trail and looped back to the bridge. Our route was a little over 5.5 miles. There are several other descents and climbs, which probably account for the trail’s difficult rating. There are also some fairly long stretches of flatter trail.

There are several creek crossings which might be a little more difficult after heavy rains. We didn’t have any problems.

We loved the towering trees, lush greenery, rocky creek crossings, and solitude. We only saw a few other hikers at the beginning our hike, which may be because it rained the last mile, or so.

It’s a dirt trail with a fair amount of roots, mud, and road apples (horse poop).
