Camping at DH Day Campground

DH Day Campground

and your feet on the ground."

DH Day Campground does not take reservations. We were on our way from Silver Lake to Traverse City, where we had reservations at another campground, when we decided to see if we could get a spot. We REALLY wanted to camp here, and as luck would have it, Sunday afternoon was a good time to snag this beautiful campsite for a few days.

We've stayed here twice and really love this campground. It's beautiful. The sites are wooded and offer varying degrees of privacy. There's beach access via a boardwalk. One of our favorite memories is sitting on the bench on the boardwalk in the middle of the night, gazing up at more stars than either of us have ever seen in our lives. It was so clear we could see the Milky Way.

The Sleeping Bear Dunes Heritage Trail runs through the campground. We biked the trail to Sleeping Bear Sand Dunes, into Glen Arbor for dinner and shopping, and to the city of Empire for ice cream.

The only thing that might be a considered a downside to some people is that the campground has vault toilets and no shower facilities. We were having so much fun that we didn't realize just how bad we needed showers until the long drive home. Baby wipes can only do so much.

Campfire coffee is good even when it's bad.
